Right after the fall of Communism, Lake Sevan dropped below its minimum water level for irrigation and electricity.
This has also brought up another problem. Too many trees have to be cut down, and so many roads have to be rebuilt. That is also a part of a major project from the government of Armenia to reconstuct roads and also to clean up the rising water from the trees.
NGOs have played a great role in bringing up this issue and succeeding to put this into government's projects.
Currently, the water levels have risen considerably and fish are thriving again in Lake Sevan once again!
