Harissa Day

28/09/2008 - 28/09/2008

Place of event: Yerevan

Harisa is an Armenian traditional food made of  chicken and wheat. It cooks slowly until it turns into porridge like consistency. It is usually served with butter on top and some cinnamon and sugar or salt to your liking.

Every year on the last Sunday of each September near Musa Ler, a monument built in the memory of the Armenian people who fought for their lives under Ottoman rule, hundreds of fires are made and hundreds of pots are prepared for cooking this traditional food.

Traditional folk music of Duduk and Dohol are played. People come from all over Armenia to taste this food and dance to the music. The entrance is free and the food is free.

The celebrations take place during the whole day it is like a picnic style event, so bring your spread to sit on the floor or bring your chairs. It is an outdoor event.
